Google fined CCI penalty of Rs 937.44 crore ($114M); its second penalty in India in a couple months

Google has been fined a second penalty of Rs 937.44 crore in India in the span of weeks after the company was accused of abusing its dominant position in the market. Google responded to the penalty by stating that “Indian developers have benefited from the technology, security, consumer protections, and unrivaled choice and flexibility that Android and Google Play provide.

PhonePe investing $200M in building data centres in India

Amid a surge in payments volume in the country, payments giant PhonePe said that it is on its way to invest up to $200 million in building data centres across the country. The company said the startup’s investments were primarily driven by the regulatory insistence on data localisation, among other factors. It was beneficial for the company to invest in captive data centres given the data localisation mandate from the regulators.

CDP mParticle Sold to Rokt for $300 Million

CDP mParticle is being acquired by ecommerce platform Rokt for a price of $300 million.  It’s the third acquisition of a leading independent CDP in a little over one month, following Uniphore’s purchase of ActionIQ and Contentstack’s purchase of Lytics. All three buyers offer some type of customer-facing technology; apparently they’ve decided that adding real-time profiles from CDP will give them a competitive edge.  (See this blog post for more analysis.)
