Meta Threads Won’t Even Pretend to Meet EU Privacy Rules

Meta has launched its Twitter rival, Threads, except in the European Union where it probably violates privacy rules.  It’s possible that Meta will provide a more responsible product than the smoldering remains of Twitter, but that bar is so low an ant could hurdle it.

OpenAI Disables ChatGPT Browse with Bing to Avoid Content Leaks

Users frustrated that ChatGPT Plus includes no information after September 2021 had the option of using a plug-in that let it browse the web through Bing.  Or they did until July 3, when OpenAI disabled the plug-in because users sometimes collected information that was supposed to be kept behind a paywall.  Add it to the list of intellectual property challenges posed training generative AI on more-or-less public data.

Amperity Launches New Lakehouse Offering

Amperity has launched Lakehouse CDP,  which delivers CDP functions within “lakehouse” data stores including Snowflake and Databricks.  Amperity tools for data modeling, data quality, identity resolution, generative AI, segmentation, and performance measurement will send all results to a company’s own lakehouse rather than a separate Amperity-managed database. Modules can be used independently but the real benefit here is that Amperity is one of the few “composable” CDP vendors who offer a complete set of pre-integrated CDP functions.
