India’s CCI says competition a legitimate privacy concern, Meta disagrees

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed a Rs 213.14 crore (US$26 million) on Meta, whose data practices were deemed unfair in a broadly defined ruling against WhatsApp that incorporated competition. The regulator claimed possible misuse of user data relating to over-the-top (OTT) messaging and online display advertising and had concern about unfair terms under its competition law, the Competition Act. Meta disagrees and plans to appeal.

Children’s Privacy: Australia on fast-track to have toughest social media law for youth

Australia’s government announced it intends to pass legislation by the end of the year banning youth under age 16 from using social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X. This would set a new bar worldwide, as it imposes strict age-verification requirements and disallows exemptions for parental consent and pre-existing accounts. Fines would be as high as $32 million for companies that fail to comply.

Salesforce to Launch Agentforce Testing Center for AI Agents

WarGames.  The Matrix.  2001: a Space Odyssey.  No matter how many times we’re warned against autonomous AI, people continue to build it.  Agentic AI leader Salesforce is trying to limit the risk it’s creating by launching Agentforce Testing Center, which will let users test prototype agents in a secure, sandbox-like environment. They can (safely?) be let loose in the wild once properly configured.
