Half of “Citizen Developer” Programs Fail: Webcon Study
Only half the CIOs who have adopted citizen development say it’s worked (14% of 27%), but nearly all the rest (70%) plan to adopt it, according to this Webcon survey. The study throws fuel on the build vs buy fire by reporting that low-code development is not only faster, cheaper and more flexible than custom development but also than buying packaged (“commercial off-the-shelf”) software. Or maybe not: the actual questions compare apps built with low-code platforms to “applications built with commercial-off-the-shelf products”, so respondents might have been thinking about packaged development tools.
