Germany rules LinkedIn breached GDPR

The regulator agreed with vzbv, a consumer rights organization that LinkedIn can’t ignore ‘Do Not Track’ (DNT) browser setting preferences because that’s in violation of GDPR. This is significant because a lot of other companies have ignored this as a user preference, but LinkedIn which said in a notice it wouldn’t observe DNT, has now been flagged for that and it serves as a test case going forward.

EDPB bans Meta from EEA personal data use for ad targeting

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has told Ireland’s regulator to impose a permanent ban on Meta processing personal data for behavioral advertising from the entire European Economic Area (EEA). This, which stops the company from selling ads to its 258 million Facebook and Instagram users there. It is the result of Meta’s not adhering to regulator orders imposed last year by Norway.

Customer Data Platform Industry Adds New Vendors: CDP Institute Report

Software vendors continued to add Customer Data Platform (CDP) capabilities to existing systems in the first half of 2024, according to the CDP Institute’s latest Industry Update report.  Nearly all of the dozen companies appearing in the report for the first time started as marketing or messaging applications and added CDP capabilities after they were built.  These firms accounted for most of the industry growth during the report period.
