Salesforce expands its Bengaluru office presence as part of its growth strategy in India. The decision aligns with the increasing trend of companies investing in digital transformation and leveraging generative AI innovation. ETML, a growth advertising and analytics company has bagged the digital mandate for Lenskart, India’s optical brand. With this partnership, ETML would be responsible for handling Lenskart’s performance marketing endeavours in the Middle East, with an aim to serve its larger business objective.

Do not confuse Snow Software, which helps companies track IT costs, with Snowflake, a cloud database often used for CDP-ish solutions. Do take note that Snow has just been sold to Flexera, which also helps companies optimize their return on tech investments. It’s a helpful reminder that cost-conscious IT departments are more than happy to “help” marketers who are doing a poor job of controlling tech spend.

Sure, cloud databases are popular, but the really cool IT kids have moved on data lakehouses, which combine data warehouse functionality with data lake flexibility. Or so says this survey from Dremio, which sells guess-what. Lakehouse advantages over cloud databases include lower cost, self-service access, and easier support for AI.

Consumers may find passwords annoying, but IT security people dislike them much more intensely. This Delinea survey finds that biometrics are the preferred replacement among IT security teams (59%), followed by multi-factor authentication (46%), one-time passwords (37%) and PIN codes (30%). It’s not clear that consumers have quite the same enthusiasm for biometrics, which often feel creepy.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Salesforce announced a set of new integrations, including sales of Salesforce products on the AWS Marketplace and easier data sharing between Salesforce Data Cloud and AWS data services. Most of the changes are fairly technical but the general lesson is that even mighty Salesforce is ultimately a guest on turf controlled by AWS.

Oh, the irony. Just as streaming TV services recognize that selling ads is more profitable than selling subscriptions, European regulations are forcing ad-sales giants like Meta to offer ad-free subscription services. Snapchat is the latest to roll out a paid, no-ad option in certain markets. Snapchat’s post is cryptic so here’s a MediaPost article with some perspective.

This Canto study isn’t entirely about AI but the most interesting tidbit is that B2B companies are twice as likely as B2C companies to use AI for content creation (49% vs 27%) and to search existing content (40% vs. 18%). Palantir, founded by Peter Thiel, is a company known for working with intelligence agencies and military organizations around the world. Now they and four partners, including Accenture, have won an NHS England £330M contract to build a massive data platform for health data sharing. Italy’s regulator, one of the most proactive in the EU in investigating AI impact, has invited academics, AI experts and consumer groups to participate in assessing whether online websites are using adequate measures to protect against data scraping by AI platforms. Reuters reports that Italy, France and Germany have already reached agreement on how AI should be regulated and this comes at a time when the EU is completing its AI draft rules.

New Zealand’s regulator will issue a biometrics code draft in early 2024 and invite feedback from experts and the public. The draft code will focus on three main areas: proportionality, which balances why biometrics is being used against its privacy risk; transparency, in terms of providing clear information and notifications; and. purpose limitation, which outlines restrictions on collection and use of biometric data.

Meta, the “My Entitlement To your Assets” company has a penchant for using children to get mass amounts of data you might not otherwise give them. In fact, newly unsealed documents from the 33-state & DC Instagram and Facebook lawsuit, shows despite 1.1 million reports of under-age users on its platform, the company only removed a fraction of them and continued to collect children’s personal information.
