Some tech companies are trying to water down the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) before it takes force next year, but a coalition of 24 tech companies is supporting an amendment to make it stronger. The list includes privacy-focused firms like DuckDuckGo and Ghostery. No sign of Facebook, Google, Amazon or other heavy hitters on that list.
Lots of nice funding news today. CDP Blueshift announced a $15 million Series B, bringing its total financing to $30 million. Blueshift calls itself a Customer Data Activation Platform, hoping to clarify that it selects customer treatments in addition to building a unified CDP database.
This eConsultancy study for Adobe doesn’t talk much about location data but it does find that marketers list a holistic customer view (44%) and effectiveness tracking (41%) as their top two challenges. Both require a location-to-retail connection. Anyway, we love the eConsultancy/Adobe studies, so that’s a good enough excuse to share the latest with you.
Procrastinators of the world can throw a party whenever they get around to it: Google has once more pushed back complete third-party cookie deprecation. The new target is “early next year.” Reasons for the delay include concerns expressed by U.K. data regulator Information Commissioner’s Office, an ongoing inquiry by the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority, and widespread discontent in the advertising ecosystem.
