Ireland’s regulator, which is responsible for Meta in the EU, has determined its Twitter-rival Threads does not sufficiently meet GDPR or EU privacy standards, so won’t be allowed there for the foreseeable future. Concerns are Threads uses sensitive Instagram user data, such as health, location, and search history, as well as behavioral and ad info.

At issue is the UK Online Safety Bill, soon to become law, which would allow the UK government to compel backdoor access to any end-to-end encryption system.
