Most Ecommerce Customers Fail to Log In During Visits: Coveo Report

This Coveo report clarifies why identifying anonymous website visitors is so helpful.  They report that more than half of retail website customers identify themselves by logging in during only one-quarter of their visits.  The survey also asks about martech products: CDP ranked last in purchase intent among “winners”, at 36%.  CRM (59%), ecommerce (55%) and order processing (52%) headed the list.  Non-winners were even less likely (29%) to buy a CDP.

Adobe Pays $1 Billion to Abandon Figma Merger

It may take a while for BigTech to realize that global regulators are not as deferential as they used to be.  Adobe just learned that the hard way – with a tuition of $1 billion in termination fees – when it agreed with Figma to abandon their proposed merger.  “Thousands of hours spent with regulators around the world” couldn’t convince authorities that their product design products are not competitive, and never could be.

Snowflake Buys Samooha to Simplify Building Data Clean Rooms

Developers who build applications that run on someone else’s platform know they risk being knee-capped if the platform builds similar features into its core system.  Data clean room vendors received a reminder today when Snowflake announced it is purchasing Samooha, a system that simplifies clean room development on Snowflake.  Samooha was already a Snowflake partner but presumably the deal will allow them to create even tighter integrations.

Google to Block Cookies on 1% of Chrome Browsers Starting January 4

Google has taken another small step on its thousand-mile journey to third party cookie deprecation, announcing that third-party cookies will be deprecated for real on 1% of Chrome browsers worldwide.  The idea is to encourage the industry to test Privacy Sandbox, Google’s collection of privacy-protecting tracking alternatives.  Meanwhile, The Trade Desk just blasted Privacy Sandbox and urged use of alternative identifiers, which of course have problems of their own.

BI Leaders Less Interested in Self-Service Options: BARC Study

BARC’s magisterial 2024 Data, BI and Analytics Trend Monitor finds security and privacy, data quality, and governance are the top 3 industry concerns, which is similar to past results.  More interesting are a slight decline in the rankings for self-service analytics (from 5th to 6th) and business user data prep (from 7th to 9th).  Lots of detail here by company size, user type, best-in-class, industry, and regions.
