Simon Data Offers Expanded Identity Resolution

I have so many pet peeves I may open a zoo.  The first exhibit will be filled with people who assume that every CDP includes identity resolution features, even though we’ve been saying for years that many do not, and that’s okay because good third-party alternatives are available.  But for buyers who do want integrated ID resolution, Simon Data just launched Identity+, which uses third-party data and identity graphs to improve resolution rates and attach more addressable identifiers to customers.

Google Expands Performance Max for Automated Acquisition Campaigns

The next pavilion will feature marketers who expect automation to save them the trouble of designing good campaigns.  We’ll treat them nicely, because systems like Google’s one-click Performance Max are in fact taking over more of the job – and probably doing it better than the people they replace.  Performance Max, which finds the optimal mix of channels and ad formats, just added more campaign types and acquisition targets.

Coherent Raises $75 Million to Access Spreadsheet Logic with APIs

You’ll exit through a gift shop selling snake oil harvested from vendors over-promising what can be done with a self-service, no-code interface.  I’ll have to be selective, though since I do like the promise made by Coherent to transform business logic within a spreadsheet into an API accessible by other applications.  They just raised a $75 million Series B, bringing total funding to $89 million.

Aussie accommodation comparison website fined $44.7M by Federal Court for misleading consumers

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) initially launched legal proceedings against Trivago in 2018, alleging the site’s hotel comparison service had been misleading consumers for nearly four years. The highlighted prices were often not the cheapest, but instead those Trivago was prioritising for advertisers willing to pay the best cost-per-click rates for promotion.

Hong Kong’s Omnichat raises $1.8M Pre-A round funding to expand business to Southeast Asia

Omnichat, a Hong Kong-based omni-channel chat commerce solution provider has raised $1.8 million in Pre-A round funding and announced its business expansion plan to Southeast Asia. Omnichat said in a statement that the funding will finance Omnichat to further expand the business to Southeast Asia (SEA) markets, and the first stop will be Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Cybersecurity startup Strike raises US$5.4M

Strike is a continuous penetration testing platform that seeks to expand access to cybersecurity in Latin America. Penetration tests are simulated cyberattacks to detect vulnerabilities. Strike proposes that companies get offensive security throughout the year for the same price they used to pay for a one-time checkup a couple of times in the same period. Strike combines automation with a network of ethical hackers working for the company.

Morado, a Colombian startup aiming to digitize beauty salons, raises US$5M

Morado’s value proposition is offering to the owners of beauty salons, spas, and related establishments a Marketplace of supplies of all kinds (beauty products, uniforms, furniture) giving them credits, next-day delivery, and other digital stores’ related services. The company has said it will use this financing to expand its operation in Colombia, where it already has 60 employees, and expand into Mexico, where it plans to be operational by the end of this year.
