Retail Media Supports the Rise of Commerce Media: eMarketer

The success of retail media has paved the way for the rise of commerce media, says a new report from eMarketer, sponsored by LiveRamp. Commerce media includes retail media and similar initiatives from non-retail vendors such as financial services, travel, and commerce intermediaries like Instacart and Uber Eats. Ad spend on financial media networks, for example, will reach $35 million in the U.S. this year, and more than quadruple by 2026.

Musk’s DOGE wants access to heavily guarded IRS system

Well beyond operational efficiency, Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has just asked the Internal Revenue System (IRS) for access to accounts in the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS) which holds individual personal ID numbers and bank account information for taxpayers and businesses. Scarily, those with access can also enter and adjust transaction data. Even if this were to promote efficiency, why do it in the midst of tax season – and why at all?

Stop, stay, and strike seem to be watchwords the Trump administration and states are using for privacy regulations that had been underway when Republicans took over. Children’s Privacy: Parents of 4 who died after a blackout challenge are suing TikTok for access to their kids’ data

TikTok is being sued by the parents of four British children ages 12-14 who they believe died after doing a blackout challenge. The intent is to force the firm to release their children’s data to better understand what happened, but TikTok says they aren’t entitled to that data without a court order and implied it may have been deleted.

Meta Supports Ad Placement Controls

Meta has moved to provide more support for ad placement controls and thus brand safety (presumably because there are many places you don’t want your brand to show up on Facebook). In particular, it has expanded its third-party “blocklist” program; brands can now work with IAS, DoubleVerify and Zefr to create blocklists across Meta’s platforms. Meta is also conducting limited tests with a tool to turn off comments on ads.
