Sticking with retail, Profitero is creating an “open ecosystem” to simplify sharing the data it captures about product sales and traffic on 8,000 on Websites around the world. Ecosystem partners include ad agencies, publishers, and analytics platforms. It’s all about breaking down silos and who could be against that, except maybe silo insurance companies?

Finally, the retail analytics gurus at dunnhimby have launched Model Lab, a Web-based data science tool on Microsoft Azure, which automates much of the tedious data preparation required to build predictive models. It’s sold through subscription, so it’s an example of cloud-based systems easing access advanced technology.

I thought we’d just ease into the Labor Day weekend today but here’s some actual news: digital experience platform Episerver has purchased optimization platform Optimizely. It’s Episerver’s third acquisition since it was bought by private equity investor Insight Venture Partners in September 2018. Price was not announced.

Apple is delaying enforcement of the iOS 14 privacy features that will require permission for advertisers to access its IDFA device ID. Advertisers in general and Facebook in particular were upset about the feature, which will severely limit tracking of individuals. Apple said the new feature would be deployed “early next year”.

If your programmatic media bingo card had “movie theaters” on it, you’re can check that one off: digital out of home ad network Vistar Media is teaming with Screenvision to sell in-theater ads. This assumes that people will actually attend theaters again.

Did you scratch you head last year when the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association bought NAPCO Media, publisher of Target Marketing and Publishing Executive? Now you can unscratch it, because SGIA just sold NAPCO to Adweek. Adweek itself was bought by Shamrock Capital in June, and is apparently looking to scale up its audience data.

Did you notice that today’s items all start with a question? RichRelevance has some new answers about what buyers want. They just launched “deep recommendations”, which can predict how products will sell before they’ve been offered. The company says that system yields 80% higher sales than standard recommendation engines.

InfoSum has technology that lets companies analyze data on shared customers without sharing the data itself. It uses Bloom filters, a term you can casually drop the next time you’re trying to impress a privacy geek. The rest of us may be impressed that they just raised $15 million to complete their Series A.

Lots of that data we’re so carefully protecting is wrong. This report for Validity by Demand Metric finds that most companies think at least 20% of their CRM data is incorrect, and 27% believe bad data costs more than 10% of their revenue each year. That’s the warning of this Splunk report, which finds that managers expect data volume to grow nearly 5x by 2025 and just 14% say their company is prepared to handle the increase. Votes, coronavirus cases, census households: measurement is a hot topic right now. TVision can’t solve any of those problems but does claim a better way to track TV viewers. Their latest semi-annual report finds that TV sets were on 77% more during stay-at-home periods, but viewability and attention went down. You’ll have to read the report to learn what that means.
