Google said it is launching a cloud region in Qatar, its first in the Gulf state, boosting the country’s efforts to transform itself into a digital economy through innovation. A cloud region is the geographic area in which a cloud data centre is located. The move is expected to contribute US$18.9 billion to Qatar’s economic output between 2023 and 2030 and create 25,000 jobs in 2030 alone.

ZainTech, the one-stop digital and ICT solutions powerhouse of Zain Group, has chosen Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer to roll out new technological offerings and foster competitive advantages for its clients throughout the Middle East. With Exadata Cloud@Customer, ZainTech will now provide in-country cloud hosting services for an organization’s Oracle Database across its operating countries, starting with Jordan.

Pepper Advantage’s acquisition of Rieom.ai marks an aggressive expansion into the Indian market and is indicative of the AI-driven credit management model it plans to bring to additional markets such as Indonesia, Vietnam and the Middle East in the near term. Rieom.ai’s flagship product is an AI/ML-driven predictive pre-payout credit approval tool that uses socio-demographic and profile-based analysis to assess loan application documents to identify fraud risks and other suspicious behaviour prior to credit approval.

Look, I’m sorry that pretty much every story these days is about AI, but such are the times we live in. At least this one involves a CDP vendor. Twilio has announced CustomerAI, which makes data from its Segment CDP available to large language models to create personalized marketing and service experiences, add inferred attributes to customer profiles, and generate insights about aggregate customer behaviors.

You may think that marketing is a heavy user of automation, but Jitterbit reports it is actually the second-least automated department, with IT and CX at the top. Leadspace also has some AI-powered help for B2B marketers. They have released Revenue Radar, which uses “four-signal AI” to identify the companies most likely to buy. Sounds like lead scoring but it uses intent data and identifies the best contacts within the selected accounts.

Integrate’s latest B2B offering seems a bit old-school, reading images of business cards and trade show badges to capture lead information. It will be released later this year. They also have an improved data ingestion API and advertising tracking dashboard.

The class action brought by a California resident alleges that TikTok’s pixel allows TikTok and parent company ByteDance to collect data that can be used for online advertising. The claim is that since the pixel allows compilation of broad information on web users regardless of whether individuals have accounts with app or not, the company has violated federal anti-hacking laws and California privacy laws.

Unfortunately, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) which has just settled a suit with Amazon for $5.8 million, Amazon’s Ring doorbell camera was found to be spying on female customers in their bedrooms and bathrooms. This comes just after the company agreed to pay a $25 million settlement from the FTC's children’s privacy suit.

Texas becomes the tenth US state to pass a privacy bill, but it will go into effect before some others. In fact, Texas has passed three bills – the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (HB 4) to regulate collection of personal data by business entities; the children’s social media bill (HB 18) to protect children from harmful trade practices; and the data broker bill (SB 2105).
