Brands Serve Ads to Known Bots: Adalytics

An Adalytics report reveals that brands, including high profile brands like Disney, Hershey, Unilever, Procter & Gamble and Microsoft, are advertising to known bots — such as web crawlers. This raises concerns that verification providers such as DoubleVerify and IAS are more likely than previously thought to be serving ads to malicious bots too. Sources for AdExchanger said the known bots, appearing for example on IAB Tech Lab’s bot lists, should have been easily identified.

IRS poised to give ICE sensitive data on undocumented workers: ~Cost $100B

Despite its cost-cutting fervor, the US government may forgo ~$100 billion in tax revenue in favor of finding and challenging undocumented immigrants. Never mind that records held by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have been amongst the most closely guarded data in the past to protect individual personal and financial information. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is pressing for the data, which means taxpayers may be reluctant to file out of fear of harassment.

Gmail’s latest Gemini AI “improvement” risks privacy of billions of users

Sweet! Get faster, more relevant inbox search results. No longer will you have to see emails in order of receipt (so 2020s!). Gemini will look at how often you’ve engaged with senders and prioritize accordingly. For those wanting to make their own decisions, you can switch back to traditional view (or opt out) – though, sadly, this would hamper Google being able to collect your data for AI training.

Children’s Privacy: A million NYU students’ admissions data hacked

Strange when a million seems small in comparison to other news, but scary if you’re one of the more than one million New York University applicants whose admission data, including location, contact information, grades, race, and citizenship status was hacked. The hacker claimed to be part of “Computer Niggy Exploitation” a group that had hacked and leaked information on 7 million University of Minnesota students.
