I had a better experience opening the WellCare replacement account, although the very nice agent kept telling me he was copying data into two different systems. He was intrigued to learn that products like ServiceNow can automate that sort of thing, although of course he wasn’t in a position to buy one. ServiceNow itself just bought Element AI, which will add more AI capabilities to their workflow automation. Price is estimated at $500 million.

The U.S. Thanksgiving holiday has been accompanied by the traditional news famine, so we’re reduced to rumors. At least we have the juicy one that Salesforce is in talks to acquire messaging platform Slack. It would be another move for Salesforce beyond its stronghold in customer-facing systems.

Our European cousins didn’t pick up the Thanksgiving slack. Best they have is news that France has notified global tech companies that it will start to collect a 3% tax on their French revenues, citing failure of the European Union to agree on a unified approach. These talks have been going on for years, so don’t expect this to be the last word.

There’s always another survey. This one, from data transformation vendor Matillion, finds that data transformation takes 45% of the time spent on analytics projects, much more than any other task. Respondents were IT staff and data specialists, not business users, which may explain why self-service for non-technical users was a low priority feature. Portability, ease of onboarding, and cost-effectiveness topped the list.

The News Gods took slight pity and delivered one modest piece of news today: an $8 million Series A from Glue, an AI-driven system that self-generates loyalty programs for small businesses. Fairly cool and highly useful, since few small companies have the skills to do that for themselves.

It’s downhill from here. We have a S-1 from ZoomInfo, but it’s their second since going public in June, and a $210 million Series D from AppsFlyer, but it’s just an extension of a round from January. So let’s go with ORO, which gets the Full Speed Ahead Award for launching all-in-one event planning software during an event-blocking pandemic.

The AppsFlyer-Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) survey asked: 1) How aware marketers are of Apple’s Identifier for Advertising (IDFA) changes that will require apps to get consumer consent before transmitting data to third parties, and 2) how problematic those changes would be. While 37% reported not being familiar at all or not being very familiar with the changes prior to the survey; 56% of all thought the impact would be negative, but of those already familiar, 73% thought it would have a strong negative impact.
