One-Third of Consumers Have Opted Out of Personalized Ads: Dentsu Aegis Network

July 23, 2020
Those retailers downplaying security might want to think again based on this Dentsu Aegis Network study, which found that 77% of global consumers would stop doing business with a brand that lost their data or used it irresponsibly and 32% opted out of personalized advertising in the past year. There’s a very interesting set of four scenarios for how personal data use might evolve in the near future – definitely worth a look.

Two-Thirds of Corporate Data Is Wasted: Seagate Report

July 22, 2020
If data isn’t captured then is it really data? It’s not quite as perplexing as why we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway, but this Seagate study does raise the question, since their estimate that 68% of data isn’t used includes 44% of data that goes uncaptured. Lots of other, probably more useful information here, including top five obstacles to using data (all relevant to CDPs) and that two-thirds of respondents think their company’s data security is inadequate. Also interesting regional comparisons if that’s helpful.

Better Data Management Yields Higher Profits: Qlik Study

July 22, 2020
Business intelligence vendor Qlik has another data management survey. They found data quality and correctness are the biggest obstacles to using it well. But I was more intrigued that 45% of companies had a new internal data source and 40% had a new external source in the past 12-18 months. And they show that better data management correlates with higher revenue, efficiency, and profits. Oxford comma forever!

Companies with Strong Privacy Practices Have Fewer Data Breaches: Osano Research

July 22, 2020
You’re probably not surprised that better data leads to better business results, but would you have guessed that better privacy practices correlate with fewer data breaches? Our friends at privacy tech vendor Osano rated 11,000 Web sites and found sites with the weakest privacy were twice as likely to be breached and lost seven times as many records when they were. Something to bear in mind when you’re deciding which companies can be trusted with your data.

Fanatical Labs Offers No-Code Single Customer View

July 20, 2020
Did you know it’s Hard to Believe Promises Day? I just made that up but let’s go with it. We’ll start with Fanatical Labs (great name) which offers a “no-code integration platform that delivers a true single customer view”. The product is Glances and its “helpful persona” is Glancey (not so great name). Unlike a true CDP, Glances accesses data in its original source system rather than loading into a separate database. I’ll point out that many have tried this approach and decided to create a separate database after all.

LoopMe Promises to Keep Ads from Hateful Content

July 20, 2020
Finally, we have a promise from video ad platform LoopMe that your ads will never appear near hateful content. Users get a range of rules to block content topics, sites or apps and to use third-party brand safety services. Sadly, those are far from perfect and it’s not clear that LoopMe is doing anything extra. We also don’t know what happens if they fail to meet their “promise” to keep your ad from appearing in the wrong place.
