Children’s Privacy: Twenty-one TV stations targeted by FCC for $3.4M fine for kids’ ad violation

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) wants to levy a $3.4M fine on TV stations owned by Sinclair Broadcasting, Nextstar Media Group, Cunningham Broadcasting and others it has found violating the FCC’s Children’s Programming Commercial rules. The rules, which specify time limits on how much advertising can be done proportionate to hours of children’s programming have been flouted particularly by Sinclair (which would receive the largest fine totaling $2.652 million), repeatedly over many years.

Americans Skeptical of Metaverse: Ipsos Study

People with human friends can use augmented reality to ask their advice while shopping remotely.  But while that’s a popular application, this Ipsos survey finds that Americans generally doubt that AR or the metaverse in general will make their lives better.  In fact, most said it was not interesting (39%), a privacy risk (22%), or just hype (20%), while a mere 17% found it exciting and 19% said it would help them learn new things.

IT Departments Overestimate Suitability of Current Data Tools: BARC Study

This BARC survey argues that IT-run data warehouses are a dying breed, precisely because they fail to empower business users.  There’s huge disagreement on whether current data and analytics applications meet current requirements: 70% of business users say they’re not adequate, while just 32% of IT specialists agree.  The study authors conclude that a federated model is the best approach because it gives more power to business users.

Marketers Need Better Data to Succeed: Kantar, CallMiner Reports

Does it really matter if marketers don’t get the data they want? You betcha. Kantar finds 86% of retailers say first-party data is a core pillar of their app strategy, while CallMiner reports that 62% of senior contact center decision makers feel they don’t collect all the CX data they need. In other words, improvements are essential and giving IT departments more control is not going to work.

Oracle India bets on Cloud Services for high growth

Oracle is confident of achieving a high growth momentum in India for cloud services and believes that it would continue to register a 25% quarterly growth rate. The company has set its sights on becoming the preferred cloud services provider for business across sectors in India. The company, which saw global revenues of $11.4 billion with a year-on-year growth of 18% during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, also grew by 100% when it came to India’s cloud infrastructure unit.
