Retire the password at 65? Global security report foresees major risks if you don’t

The digital password, first used at MIT in 1961, is 62 years old, and according to many experts no longer serves critical security needs businesses have. The 2023 State of Passwordless Security Report, based on interviews Vanson Bourne conducted with 1,000 IT security professionals from EMEA, APAC, and US companies, indicates 88% had cyberattacks in the last year. Phishing (43%) was the most prevalent form and 28% were by push notification attacks (aka multi-factor authentication fatigue attacks -- MFA bombs).

Children’s Privacy: Egypt’s government & UK test company exposed data of 72K kids

The Egyptian government, which in 2020 switched away from using the US College Board exam due to that company’s concern about security issues, established its own exam and in 2022 partnered with UK-based Academic Assessment Ltd. Human Rights Watch reports that now that vast amounts of personal data of tens of thousands of children who took that test was exposed for months. Star Performers Have More Unified, Trusted Data: Demand Metric and AlignBI Survey

Having data isn’t all bad, of course.  Demand Metric and AlignBI report that 68% of star performers have a complete or near-complete view of their customers, compared with just 18% of under performers.  Trust is an even bigger differentiator: 71% of star performance trust their data compared with just 15% of under performers.  Much more here on metrics, technology, staffing, and other details.

Fragmented Tech Is Biggest Obstacle to Sales-Marketing Alignment: CMO Council Study

Here’s still more on customer data: CMO Council finds that it’s co-owned by sales and marketing at 36% of companies, while it’s in separate silos at 25%, owned by a separate function in 18%, owned primarily by marketing at 13% and by sales at 8%.  Just 39% are investing in a data warehouse or CDP, although fragmented technology is the biggest obstacle to better sales-marketing alignment.
