Snowflake Launches Media Cloud for Ad-Related Data Tasks

Cloud database Snowflake has launched the Media Data Cloud, a collection of advertising and customer data-related services that include first party identity resolution from Experian, data clean room from Habu, AI-based insights from DataRobot, privacy solutions from LTI, and Unified IS 2.0 and data activation from The Trade Desk.  What’s special is these can all execute within Snowflake.   Previously, users would have needed to export the data from Snowflake, process it, and re-import the results.

Instacart Buys Caper AI to Help Citizen Shoppers

Online grocery service Instacart just bought cheerily-named Caper AI, which offers AI-powered in-store shopping cart and checkout technology.  The system uses object recognition to understand what shoppers have placed in their carts, presumably without judging.  It will help both Instacart workers and people buying for themselves – a group that apparently now needs a special label.  I vote for “citizen shoppers”.

Apple makes math work betting big on privacy

Apple made big news advocating for privacy, and it’s looking like it made a handsome profit doing so. The Financial Times just reported Apple’s App Store ad business has soared as its new policies cut into profits of Facebook and Google. Changes made earlier this year limited apps’ ability to track users without being given express consent. That made it harder for other platforms to gain and track user data. Microsoft Digital Defense Report finds nation state threats on rise, plus more sophisticated, harder to detect

The second annual Microsoft report on cybercrime has been released, with analysis of cybercrime, supply chain security, hybrid work and disinformation. Microsoft found a significant increase in cyberattacks, particularly from Russia (58%) and attacks on sectors of critical infrastructure soaring. Further, inexpensive attack kits are enabling more attackers, so cooperation of business and government is needed to fight this.
