The latest CDP vendor to address GDPR is BlueConic, which has just released a Consent Management solution. The new module captures consent and data requests from individuals and shares consent status with other systems.

Reports that most businesses won’t be ready for GDPR are so common they’re barely worth mentioning. But this survey from NetApp stands out because they gave country-by-country breakdowns and found, quite surprisingly, that U.S. firms see more harm from non-compliance than their European counterparts. Maybe it’s because the Europeans are more confident that they’ll be ready. Lots of interesting detail here if you’re into that sort of thing.

Enough GDPR. CDP Celebrus has announced a slew of non-GDPR enhancements including streaming data into Adobe Experience Cloud; audience segmentation using data stored within Celebrus; real-time profiling of Google, Facebook, and DMP audiences; and a data loader for Apache Hive.

Bangalore-based CDP vendor Vizury has changed its name to Lemnisk. The company works primarily with financial services clients in Asia but is expanding. “Lemnisk” is based on “lemniscate”, the name for the sideways “8” used to represent infinity.

You may think of GDPR as a marketing problem, but IT or information security is in charge of compliance at 52% of companies, with legal or compliance running the show at 28% and marketing nowhere on the list.

A few adtech firms blaming GDPR for a decision to leave Europe altogether, according to this article in DigiDay. The author says some are using GDPR as an excuse to leave a market that wasn’t working for them anyway.

Meanwhile, online review collector feefo asked 100 senior IT decision makers about artificial intelligence and found its sets their geeky little hearts aflutter: 96% said AI will have a positive effect on customer engagement and 66% said failure to adopt it would harm their competitiveness.

Digging still deeper in IT psyches, tech review platform TrustRadius looked at their buying preferences. They didn’t ask about the importance of flashing lights. But they did find that buyers pay more attention to product demonstrations, personal recommendations and reviews than information directly from the vendors. A whopping 85% of vendors said they try to be honest about product limits but just 37% of buyers said they are. Interesting.

Just two weeks ago, we reported that “conversational marketing platform” Drift had added a module for sales reps and mentioned in passing that they had raised $47 million to date.

Speaking of funding and Kool-Aid: MarTech Advisor’s latest analysis of martech funding finds the biggest trend is ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings of crypto-currencies similar to Bitcoin). Of the $3.6 billion raised in the first quarter of 2018, ICOs accounted for half. Figures were distorted by $1.7 billion in ICO for UK-based privacy-oriented messaging platform Telegram Messenger.

All the cool kids (and that definitely includes you, Dear Reader) know that cryptocurrencies use blockchain and that the only thing cooler than blockchain by itself is using blockchain to pay for data. Bottos ups the ante still further by using blockchain to track and pay for data that’s used to train artificial intelligence. It’s so cool my fingers feel cold just writing about it.
