Back on the bright side, California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed legislation that will protect actors from the use of “digital impostors” without permission, even after their death. Estates will have the right to sue. The Motion Picture Association of America initially opposed the legislation as inimical to innovation, but took a neutral stance after amendments were incorporated.

RudderStack, which styles itself “the AI Data Cloud Native CDP”, has unveiled a suite of Data Apps running on its Customer 360 solution, which in turn runs within Snowflake AI Data Cloud. The apps support the fast delivery of data projects — for example, attribution data and propensity scores — from data teams to business stakeholders. They are now available to Enterprise Tier RudderStack customers on Snowflake.

HubSpot kicked off INBOUND 2024 with the announcement of a new AI offering, Breeze, designed to be an easy-to-use and complete AI solution. It includes an AI copilot, multiple AI agents to automate tasks and Breeze Intelligence to give a complete view of the customer. Copilot will be available across both browser and mobile versions of HubSpot.

According to a study published in the Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management, mentioning AI in a product description can trigger anxiety in consumers. Using a sample of around 300 consumers, the researchers found that using AI terminology to describe a new TV technology caused a reduction in intent to purchase. That reduction in intent was even more pronounced in the case of a car.

Salesforce announced three enhancements to Salesforce Data Cloud at Dreamforce this week. There is an expansion of unstructured data types it can address including audio and video; there will be a sub-second “real time” layer for data from ingestion to activation; and the connector eco-system has been expanded. Salesforce also emphasized close collaboration between Data Cloud and its new Agentforce AI bots.

Not to be drowned out by Dreamforce, Adobe has taken the opportunity to unveil some content innovations. Adobe Content Analytics will identify resonant content attributes for specific target audiences while Adobe Journey Optimizer will allow instant generation of multiple content variants based on performance goals. Adobe Experience Manager will offer web experimentation capabilities.

AI-edited content is less concerning than AI-generated content — that’s the takeaway from Meta’s adjustment to its AI labeling on Facebook and other platforms. The “AI info” label will continue to appear on AI-generated content. Where content has only been modified or edited using AI, the label will appear more demurely in the post’s menu.

Seventy-five percent of marketing organizations are using generative AI (only 10% claim that it’s fully implemented) says a new report from SAS. Marketers are also consistently more positive about the outcomes of genAI use than their IT colleagues. Admittedly, 95% of senior marketing decision-makers say they don’t “fully” understand it.

A reality check from AI observability platform Riverbed: While 94% of organizations regard AI as a C-suite priority, only 37% are fully prepared to implement it (not restricted to marketing orgs). The chief obstacles are data quality and scalability. Nevertheless, 59% say their organizations are optimistic about AI, while only 4% remain skeptical.

A class action alleging Oracle tracked, compiled and sold customer data to third parties without consent has been settled for $115 million. The company, which has not admitted wrongdoing, will set up a settlement fund for payments to eligible claimants. The deadline for claims is October 17.

Google has launched confidential matching, a new tool for securing first-party data (1PD) in Google Ads. This is intended as the first implementation of the tool which uses Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to protect data by isolating a business’s information during processing, so even Google cannot access it. This free addition gives advertisers protection by default and it is reinforced by proof – “attestation,” that data has been processed as intended.
