Indian fintech start-up Cashfree Payments said on Tuesday that it has acquired a controlling stake worth $15 million in Telr, a payment service provider that operates in the UAE and Saudi Arabia markets.

The move was approved by the UAE cabinet meeting at Expo 2020 Dubai on Monday, during which government officials also agreed to adopt a national policy that will promote and protect the public’s health, as well as to clear the housing loans of low-income Emiratis.

As solo firms, both have been active in the region making other investments in Mexico’s Kueski and Lana, Brazil’s Facily and alt.bank, and Colombia’s RobinFood and Chile’s Fracttal.
