Whistleblower accuses Google of violating EU data retention laws

May 16, 2023
It’s easy (and sometimes convenient) not to delete data – but don’t! Google just got called out by a whistleblower for having saved resumes and personal data of EU and UK job interviewees, some who applied a decade or more ago. This violates EU and UK laws which don’t allow long-term retention of data that’s not strictly necessary. The company did in the past year roll out an auto-deletion tool, but that still doesn’t address its earlier non-compliance.

Americans very concerned about AI-generated news

May 16, 2023
Bospar, a PR and marketing firm, published a survey about ChatGPT, AI and the news. From the perspective of the more than 1,000 US adult survey participants, 74% believe a quarter or more of the news will be generated by AI by 2025, and 93% expressed some fear for the future because of that. Features include text variations, text-to-image background generation, and image cropping. General availability is targeted towards the end of this year.

May 12, 2023
If you spent yesterday trapped under a rock (bad) with a dead cellphone (worse), you might not have heard that Google announced all sorts of AI-related things at its I/0 conference.  We didn’t cover it because everyone else did. But lest we be totally left out, here’s news that they just launched ML Hub, a free destination to help users at all levels take advantage of machine learning models – which includes more than just generative AI.

Credo AI Aims to Tame Generative AI Risks

May 12, 2023
Excitement about ChatGPT and friends is already being replaced by doubts it can live up to the hype.  (Here’s a Gartner take, for example.)  What’s good about that is vendors are already building tools to address those concerns.  For example, Credo AI, an AI governance software vendor (yes, it’s a category), just released GenAI Guardrails, which helps companies minimize the risks of AI misuse and build the most valuable applications first.
