Impact of CCPA year over year finds dramatic increase in cost as consumers act on privacy rights

A new trends report from privacy company DataGrail shows how much impact the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) has had in just one year, including in other states. Consumers are exercising their CCPA Data Subject Rights (DSR) to access their data, delete their data, and stop the sale of their information to third-parties. As a result, costs are rising for business in staffing and processing to keep up.

New report calls out need for adopting a new security paradigm encompassing XIoT

The acceleration of digital due to COVID-19 has taken many forms, and a major area of cyber concern is the intricate interconnection of traditional Internet Cloud data with many new “Smart” devices, grids, operations and overall systems. This includes input from many sectors – healthcare, industry, food & other supply chains, and many forms of infrastructure. Holistically, they are referred to as the Extended IoT (XIoT). A report from industrial cybersecurity firm, Claroty, looks at the rapidly evolving situation, key vulnerabilities, and why hackers’ ability to bypass the need for user action has opened the door for unauthenticated attackers to gain a network foothold and then move laterally—and quietly through a network to launch ransomware or perform other harms.

iSpot Buys Tunity for Out-of-Home TV Measurement

First-party data is the new whatever-commodity-you-think-is-most-precious (personally, I go with Fritos).  So the lust to assemble more of it drives many industry deals.  For example, TV measurement vendor iSpot recently bought Tunity, an app that lets users listen to TV audio  in public places like bars, if you remember what those are.  There’s some advertising revenue to be gained but the real value is tracking out-of-home TV viewing.

Half of Marketers Say Their CRM Can’t Meet Their Needs

I have a bunch of acquisition stories today that I doubt you’ll find very interesting, Dear Reader.  So I’ll start instead with this survey from SugarCRM, which found that 55% of marketers say their current CRM can’t be customized to meet their needs.  Even more (75%) say they need a consolidated view of customer information and 81% think customers leave due to a lack of communication and relevant, personalized messaging.

Atlan Raises $50 Million for Active Metadata

Which of the following would you say was “all the rage last year”: coronavirus, metadata, or rage?  The folks at Atlan vote for “metadata”, and have just raised a $50 million Series B for their system to create an “active metadata platform” that creates a “unified discovery and collaboration experience”.   It’s all about making a company’s data more accessible and manageable, which should definitely reduce the rage in some departments.
