New York to Limit Teens’ Access to ‘Addictive’ Social Media Feeds

New York parents will be allowed to block minors’ access to social media posts suggested by platform algorithms (“addictive” feeds, some say) under a law passed by the state legislature that Governor Kathy Hochul is expected to sign. Children will only get posts from accounts they follow unless they have verified parental consent. The state Attorney General will set the rules for verifying member ages and parent consent.

Privacy laws of Texas, Oregon and Florida come into effect July 1. Texas has just announced it will establish a dedicated enforcement team to operate within its Consumer Protection Division to enforce the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, a law that unlike many other states doesn’t set a volume threshold for law applicability.
